Butterfly Bush (Buddleia davidii) We still have many varieties left and they are in bloom or about to bloom.  Butterfly bushes need full sun, fertile well-drained soil and are fast growers.   They bloom on new wood, so they may be cut back heavily every year. Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica)  This is one of the most widely used trees/shrubs in Georgia.  Crape Myrtles provide abundant summer color with a minimum of maintenance.  They grow best in full sun; heavy shade will reduce growth and flowering immensely. Chaste Tree (Vitex agnus castus) Chaste trees are rapidly becoming a southern favorite.  They can be left to grow as a multi-stemmed shrub or trimmed back yearly for a more compact look.  Bright blue flower panicles form in early summer and continue throughout summer into fall.  Happiest in full sun. Take Care of the Hummingbirds! It's always fun to watch the hummingbirds flitter around the feeders, but, don't forget to keep the feeders clean. Mold and bacteria can grow in the nectar, and fermentation caused by the yeast can be harmful to your hummingbirds.  Change the nectar often and clean the feeder each time you change the nectar.  In high temperatures (93+) nectar should be changed daily.  If the feeder is filled and changed out often, a good rinsing with hot water will suffice.  If not, then the feeder will need to be cleaned with a solution of 1/4 cup of bleach to one gallon of water.  Soak the feeder for about an hour in the solution and rinse thoroughly with running water.   Cofer's carries many types/varieties of hummingbird feeders as well as ready-to-use nectar, dry nectar mix, and assorted brushes for cleaning the feeders.  Check out our bird section today!       What a Nifty use for an old pair of shoes!
